About Jo
I am a ceramic artist based in Cheshire, working primarily on the potter’s wheel. My work explores simple, timeless forms, with an appreciation for the quiet beauty and subtle details of traditional pottery.
I am drawn to the shapes and proportions of ancient vessels, particularly the understated elegance of Roman pottery. I enjoy introducing small details into my forms and exploring how glazes soften, transform and become part of the shape itself. I make my own glazes, experimenting with colour, texture and surface to create pieces that feel both familiar and individual.
The surrounding landscape is a constant source of inspiration, from the patchwork fields and hedgerows of the Cheshire countryside to its changing seasonal colours. I am interested in the understated beauty of everyday things and in making pots that are simple in form but distinctive in character.
I hold an MA in Ceramics and have exhibited at The Oxo Gallery, Espacio Gallery and Oxmarket Gallery, as well as taking part in Surrey Artists Open Studios.
My practice continues to evolve through making, experimentation and a desire to create pottery that reflects my own way of seeing and making.
